Toxic OTT rights: A costly mistake by Yash and the producers? – Telugu Cinema

Tabaahi song from Toxic

The theatrical run of “Toxic” has come to an end. The buzz is that Yash and his team were highly confident about the film and did not take enough measures to minimise costs and potential losses.

The OTT deal is now becoming a major talking point.

When “Toxic” was still in production, Yash and producer Venkat K Narayana of KVN Productions were reportedly looking for around Rs 200 crore from the OTT rights. Netflix and other streaming platforms are said to have felt that the asking price was too high and offered around Rs 140 crore.

However, the offer was reportedly turned down. The team is said to have strongly believed in the content and expected the OTT value to increase after the theatrical release, hoping to secure more than Rs 150 crore.

The theatrical result, however, has changed the situation completely.

With “Toxic” failing to meet expectations at the box office, OTT companies are now reportedly quoting only around Rs 30-50 crore for the streaming rights.

If the reports are accurate, the difference is substantial. The makers could have locked an OTT deal before the theatrical release for a much higher amount, but their confidence in the film’s content led them to wait.

Trade circles are now discussing whether turning down the earlier offer was a costly decision. The “Toxic” episode could therefore turn out to be an important lesson in balancing content confidence with business strategy.
