Bosses of The Traitors have allegedly been forced to “cancel an entire series” from going to air.
The hit BBC game show, which is hosted by Claudia Winkleman in the UK and is produced in a 40 different territories in total, had shot an entire run of episodes only for production to be pulled midway through.
According to Richard Osman, it all happened due to a contestant saying something that was not fit for broadcast so the whole production shut down.
Speaking on the JaackMate’s Happy Hour podcast, without disclosing the location of the incident, he said: “I think I’m I’m probably not even allowed to talk about it, but there is one series in in one territory where something was discussed at length in the castle which led to the show not being able to continue.”
The former Pointless star was then asked: “So the production… they just lost the whole thing?,” to which he nodded to confirm and simply said: “Yeah!”
The game show sees players adopt either a Faithful or Traitor status, with all contestants hoping to make it to the final and win a huge sum of money. But Richard noted that extreme care is needed on set for players to not do anything that would immediately ruin the game.
He added: “You’ve got to be so careful,” and when pressed about whether contestants get paid to go on the show Richard, suspected that they probably receive expenses. He said: “I think you get per diems, but yeah, you’re not you’re not getting [paid].”
It comes just days after Richard was thought to have let slip the start date for the upcoming series of The Traitors. It all happened when he attended a live recording of his The Rest Is Entertainment podcast with Marina Hyde and rugby player Joe Marler, who appeared in the castle earlier this year.
It’s reported that he asked Joe if he had any advice for the upcoming group of contestants, and he said: “What is it, September 23, the next series?”
Then, Richard replied: “By the way, to point out, it’s absolutely embargoed that it starts on September 23. Let’s talk about what we call the events of September 23 this year … the cat’s out of the bag, isn’t it? Not to repeat it.”
But an insider later claimed he had “got it wrong,” telling The Sun: “There was huge frustration when Richard wrongly announced the date, and everyone involved were blindsided and confused as to where he got that from. He even sent a text to the BBC’s Head of Content Kate Philips to apologise for the cock-up, which is not a scenario which happens very often.
“Making it worse is the fact that so many people assumed that if Richard said it, then it was probably correct. After all he’s a BBC star, and former telly executive who’s well placed to uncover these bits of information. Except he got it wrong
