BBC Radio 2 star Trevor Nelson has confirmed that he’ll be back on the airwaves in a matter of days after taking time out to undergo brain surgery

Trevor Nelson has announced his return to BBC Radio 2 and BBC Radio 1Xtra. It was announced in June that Trevor would be taking time off work, and later announced he had undergone brain surgery for a tumour.
Trevor told listeners in June that, after a routine check-up, he was made to undergo follow-up tests for a mystery condition and that he would be prioritising his health. And fans won’t have to wait long to hear him back on the radio, with his return just a matter of days away.
“I will be slowly easing my way back onto the airwaves from Monday on Radio 2 and next Sunday on 1Xtra. I look forward to being with you all then,” he said today.
The news of his return was confirmed via a trail on Sara Cox’s Breakfast Show earlier today, when Trevor asked the broadcaster: “Oh hi Sara Cox…. Have I missed anything? Now, where were we before I was rudely interrupted? It’s been a minute, I know… but over the next few weeks I’m getting back to where I belong… In the Radio 2 studio, behind the microphone and spinning some records!
“It’s so good to be home and I’d be delighted if you could join me Monday afternoon from 2. Just ask your smart speaker to play BBC Radio 2, but for now, Sara… ‘It’s FRI-YAYYYYY’.”
After the exciting trail, Sara said: “We are absolutely thrilled, Trevor, we love you mate, we love you so much! We are so happy that you’re coming back.
“I had a little listen to that trail yesterday, and I was YES, so good. Just feels like the family are coming back together. Trev, we love you mate, we can’t wait.” She then played Bill Wither’s hit track, Lovely Day.
Trevor’s return to the airwaves will be staggered, and he’ll be behind the mic on Monday and Wednesday next week, then will return for three days the following week. On the week commencing September 21, he’ll be behind the mic Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, before a full return on Monday, September 28.
Meanwhile, DJ Spoony, who stood in for Trevor during his absence from the network, will be deputising on Tuesday next week and on Friday, September 11. Clara Amfo will also be assisting on Thursday, September 10, Tuesday, September 15, Thursday, September 17, and Wednesday, September 23.
Last month, Trevor confirmed that he had undergone “very serious” surgery for a brain tumour. At the time of his break from work, his health condition wasn’t disclosed.
Speaking last month, Trevor said: “There’s been a lot of speculation as to what’s wrong with me, I know that much. My phone’s blown up 20 times over with people asking what’s wrong with me.
“I was minding my own business and then it was discovered I had a brain tumour. As you can imagine, I was shocked. In fact, my world was turned upside down. Quite literally, my head was all over the place. I knew I had to stop work because I couldn’t be that guy on the radio knowing I had that going on.”
Trevor stated that he decided to share his diagnosis due to the volume of messages he had been receiving about his absence from work. He explained that, despite not being at work, he was keeping himself busy by going to the gym and playing golf.
“Let’s get that straight and back to that as soon as possible,” he closed his statement with. In June, Trevor said he was “taking a little break” from his work commitments.
“After a routine check-up, I was advised to have some follow-up tests. As a result, I will be taking some further time off,” he said.
