Tributes have poured in for a nursery manager following news of her tragic death.
Last week Tiny Stars Day Nursery in Edgeley, Stockport, announced that its ‘much loved’ manager Sarah Hughes had passed away.
Describing it as ‘an incredibly difficult and emotional time for our whole team’, they requested that, if possible, families keep their children at home last Friday so that staff could be supported to ‘come to terms with this devastating loss’.

Mum Sarah was just 44 and had been suffering from terminal cancer.
Despite her illness, she continued to work full time and only stopped working two weeks before her death as her family said ‘she was taken into hospital and sadly didn’t make it home’.
Thousands of people had already reacted to the nursery’s social media post announcing Sarah’s death, with dozens of people leaving comments, many of them parents paying tribute to Sarah and saying she was ‘the reason’ they chose that nursery.
Dozens more responded to the Manchester Evening News article, adding their own condolences.
“Such a wonderful caring soul,” said one reader. “Rest easy Sarah, never forget your kindness and pure heart.”
“Such sad news,” said another. “I worked with Sarah many years ago and looked after her girls, what a shock. Sending lots of love to her lovely daughters and family.”
A third added: “I lived with Sarah at uni, such fond memories. Heartbreaking news, sending all my love to her daughters and family.”
In last week’s Facebook post, the nursery said: “It is with profound sadness that we share the heartbreaking news that our much loved Nursery Manager, Sarah, has sadly passed away.
“Sarah was an incredibly important part of the Tiny Stars family and dedicated so much of her life to caring for the children, supporting families and leading our wonderful team. She will be deeply missed by us all.
“We know that many of our families and children will have known Sarah well, and we understand that this news will come as a great shock and cause a great deal of sadness.
“At this incredibly difficult time, our thoughts and love are with Sarah’s family and loved ones.”
The post went on to explain that staff and families ‘will continue to support one another’ and ‘continue to provide the love, care and stability that the children need’ as Sarah, a mum herself, would have wanted.
Thanking everyone for their ‘understanding, kindness and support during this incredibly difficult time’, they asked that people respect Sarah’s family’s privacy ‘as they come to terms with their devastating loss’ and added that ‘Sarah will always hold a very special place in the hearts of everyone at Tiny Stars’.
