Supermarket chain Waitrose has issued an alert to customers over a popular dessert which has ingfredients which could harm anyone with some conditions. The Food Standards Agency said Waitrose & Partners recalls Waitrose Rhubarb Crumble because of undeclared oats – gluten.
The FSA warned: “This product contains gluten making it a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to oats or gluten, or with coeliac disease.”
Officials said Waitrose & Partners is recalling the above product from customers and has contacted the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall.
The business has issued a point-of-sale notice to its customers. These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product.
The Waitrose Rhubarb Crumble contains oats (gluten) which are not declared on the label. The product has a use-by date of August 19 2026 but has home freezing instructions to consume within 1 month of freezing.
The FSA said: “If you have bought the above product and have an allergy or intolerance to oats or gluten or have coeliac disease, do not eat it. Instead return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund. For more information, contact Waitrose Customer Care on 0800 188 884.”
Waitrose said: “Do not consume. Package up ite, Return to your local Waitrose & Partners branch for a refund. We apologise that it has been necessafry to recall this product and for the inconvenience caused.”
