Veronica Falls will re-issue their self-titled debut album on November 27th.
The band were instant favourites with CLASH – part of an emergent indie pop scene in East London but with deep links to Glasgow, Veronica Falls were fantastic live and released two superlative albums on Bella Union.
Merging C86 and Sarah Records influences with 60s Baroque pop leanings and the occasional use of shoegaze textures, the band’s enchanting songwriting never once dipped.
Sprucing up their debut album for its 15th birthday, an incoming re-issue adds a plethora of extras to the band’s story.
Self-titled album ‘Veronica Falls’ lands on November 27th, with a bonus disc gathering nine recordings from the same period.
Side C is devoted to cover versions – a subversive take on the Rolling Stones’ ‘Under My Thumb’, Slumber Party’s ‘Sooner Or Later’, The West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band’s ‘Eighteen Is Over the Hill’, Eurythmics’ ‘Thorn in My Side’ and The Verlaines’ ‘Joed Out’.
Always a fantastic singles band, Side D collates four B-sides from Veronica Falls’ archives.
Commenting on the reissue Veronica Falls say: “It feels slightly surreal that 15 years have passed already since the release of our debut album, yet so much has happened since. A second album, an EP worth of unreleased demos, solo projects, and of course Patrick’s tragic passing. We miss him and think of him often. When the idea of a reissue came about, we thought it would be a nice way to house every track we put out during that era under one definitive roof, whilst also honouring Patrick’s legacy by helping raise funds for the Los Angeles LGBT center, a charity close to his heart.”
