Sobhita Dhulipala is taking on a physically demanding role in Pa. Ranjith’s upcoming film Vettuvam, and the filmmaker has high praise for the commitment she brought to the project.
Speaking about their collaboration, Ranjith called Sobhita a “brilliant actor” and revealed that she performed her action sequences without relying on a stunt double.
“I have watched a lot of her work, and I have wanted to work with her for a long time. She also wanted to work with me, and it finally happened with this film. She’s a brilliant actor. Every actor has given their best, for sure,” he said.
Ranjith added that Sobhita did not use a stunt double for even a single shot.
“The stunt doubles were only there for camera rehearsals, but ultimately, she would come and perform the scenes herself because we wanted that authenticity. She gave it her 100%,” he said.
For Sobhita, the physical demands of Vettuvam meant stepping well beyond the usual preparation required for a role.
Speaking about the choreography and action involved in the film, she said, “Some of the things we are doing in this film take 15 or 20 years of practice to achieve that kind of choreography. But on every single shoot day, we performed the stunts with a lot of spirit and teamwork.”
The collaboration with Ranjith marks another distinctive chapter in Sobhita’s career, as she continues to choose characters and filmmakers that push her into unfamiliar territory.
With Vettuvam, that evolution has taken a more physical turn, giving her the opportunity to explore an action-oriented character within Ranjith’s cinematic world.
The filmmaker’s praise for her commitment, along with Sobhita’s own account of the demanding shoot, offers a glimpse into the effort that has gone into bringing the character to life.
