Chrissi Announces Debut Album ‘I HATE YOU DON’T LEAVE ME !’ | News

Chrissi will release her debut album, ‘I HATE YOU DON’T LEAVE ME !’, on October 16th via Black Butter Records.

Introduced with prelude singles ‘HEARTLESS DARLIN’!’, ’THE SCARIEST PART!’ and ‘ONE IN FIVE!’, the Essex-born artist’s debut collection traces traces the knotty territory between love and loss, self-doubt and self-discovery, finding humour, tenderness and clarity in the experiences that have shaped her.

With the album reveal, Chrissi shares the countryfied title track, a worn and lovelorn confessional about the contradiction of knowing something is hurting you while still desperately wanting it to stay.

“‘I HATE YOU DON’T LEAVE ME !’ is about codependency and my personal inability to let go of anything without leaving claw marks, but trying to let go and do better,” explains Chrissi.

The rest of the record branches out from that central idea of heartbreak and the clarity that comes after. It’s learning what it means to grow from girlhood into womanhood while navigating the experiences that shape you along the way.

“‘I HATE YOU DON’T LEAVE ME !’ is the full story of the song on a larger scale, going into my moments of feeling in love and why it was hard to sever the tie. It also covers my experience as a girl growing into womanhood and still trying to navigate all the negative experiences that come with it.”

Chrissi worked closely with producer Pera, whose credits include Anderson .Paak, Conan Gray and Tiana Major9, unlocking a sound that feels entirely her own, bringing together melodic grooves, soulful vocals and wry, tongue-in-cheek lyricism.

The album draws from The Supremes, Nat King Cole and the soca music of her Trinidadian upbringing alongside Labi Siffre, Ravyn Lenae, stitching together a seemingly eclectic set of influences into one distinctive world.
