Logitech has just announced a new slate of products at its G Play event in Warsaw, and while updates to the Pro line and streamer gear are exciting additions, it’s a new update to its software offering that caught my eye the most.
Dubbed G Hub Replay, it’s a gameplay recording tool that looks to make sharing highlight clips as easy as possible. It runs in the background capturing your entire gameplay session, and then uses a machine learning algorithm to automatically pick out the clip-worthy moments.
I was shown a demo of G Hub Replay in action by the Logitech team, with the software offering an editable timeline, audio mixing, and basic customisation features like adding subtitles and graphics. These clips can then be saved as a local video file, or shared directly to YouTube or Discord from within the app itself.
The Logitech team tells me that the software should have minimal performance impact, although I’m yet to test these claims for myself. They also clarify that the machine learning used to find the best in-game highlights is running directly on users’ machines, and doesn’t rely on any cloud-based LLM handshakes.
Over 50 games will have the automatic highlighting feature at launch, which includes multiplayer favourites such as Overwatch, Counter-Strike 2, and the upcoming Modern Warfare 4. Replay can be used to record any game application, but not every title will have the automatic highlight scanning feature. Support for more titles is promised to be added at a later date.
Sharing gaming highlights has become increasingly popular with all major consoles now having dedicated capture buttons on their controllers. PC gamers have plenty of options open to them – including professional streaming software such as OBS and Logitech’s own Streamlabs – but this latest release looks to be one of the quickest ways to get those clips trimmed and shared I’ve seen so far.
As someone who’s built up a huge library of admitedly average gameplay clips during late-night Counter Strike sessions with friends, I’m keen to see how Logitech’s new solution stacks up against other tools on the market.
Replay currently sits as a separate app alongside G Hub with no current plans to integrate it alongside. It’s available to download right now from the Logitech G website.
