It’s no surprise street party instigators Yurt Party have a busy schedule lined up, as Aotearoa’s sunny season beckons. With new tunes up their sleeves, the genre-fusing Canterbury collective are soon hopping the ditch to move crowds in Melbourne, Brisbane and at Tablelands Folk Festival in Yungaburra, North Queensland, then they’ll be back on home turf, playing headline shows in Auckland, Wellington, and the garden city.
Summer festival favourites, they’ll also be compelling frolicsome attendees (including you?) to make shapes at Matakanarama Festival and Auckland Folk Festival in the months ahead. Born in Ōtautahi, Yurt Party have spent the past few years riling up dancefloors around Aotearoa, playing backyards, clubs and festivals including Electric Avenue, CubaDupa, Twisted Frequency, Shipwrecked and Woodford Folk Festival (Aus).
Their high-energy instrumental music takes inspiration from Balkan, Latin and Dub. The tunes are made for dancing, leaving you with a smile on your face and sore legs in the morning!
2026 kicked off with their Australian debut at Woodford Folk Festival, where they were tagged as one of the festival’s surprise favourites. They also won Best Band with a Fiddler at the Golden Fiddle Awards in Tamworth. Now they’re back home with new music recorded at The Surgery in Wellington, and taking the new tunes around the motu.
