Alan Carr appears to cuss at Amanda Holden at the NTAs

Alan Carr was spotted jokingly branding best pal Amanda Holden a ‘little b***h’ after she surprised him on stage at the NTAs.

It was an emotional night for the Chatty Man icon, 50, as he was presented with the special recognition award to celebrate his incredible TV career so far – including his unforgettable stint on Celebrity Traitors.

Seconds before his win, he was serenaded on stage by a string of famous faces including the Britain’s Got Talent judge, 55, and his Traitors co-stars, including Paloma Faith, Kate Garraway, Charlotte Church and David Olusoga, who sang I Know Him So Well.

In a new video, he could be seen clutching his trophy and making his way off the stage beside Amanda and calling her a ‘little b***h’ for not clueing him in to the surprise.

She revealed that she went to extraordinary lengths to avoid letting slip of Alan’s award, and had spent much of the week avoiding him – even going so far as to arrive at the NTAs early to dodge a run-in.

Unpacking the scenes on her Heart Breakfast show earlier today, she told co-host Jamie Theakston: “I didn’t tell Alan. I’ve deliberately not spoken to Alan for a week.

“Me and Alan have got the biggest gobs in showbusiness and we can’t keep any secrets! And he just kept looking at me going, ‘I can’t believe it, I can’t believe it.’

“What was really sad is he’s been so busy, it’s like been Christmas for him this year. And to see his little face, he was in tears, shaking.

“He got up onto the stage, his glasses were all steamed up. My instinct is always to take them off and clean them, which I always do whenever I’m with him, wherever we are. But I was in a black lace dress, there was nowhere for me to do it. So, I had to just leave him.”

The pair have been close for years, after first meeting at an event around two decades ago. Since then, they have given fans a front-row seat into their infectiously lovable bond and fronted their own travel show, Amanda and Alan’s Italian Job.

It seems as though they will be reuniting on our screens very soon for a new project. but Amanda has been sworn to secrecy over the details.

She recently told the Daily Mail’s Weekend Magazine: “We’re just about to sign for a new show, but I’m not allowed to say anything. It’s completely different.

“It’s amazing that Alan hasn’t told anyone, to be honest: as soon as he came out of Traitors, he told me he’d won it, and he’d signed a non-disclosure agreement!”

Elsewhere in the sweet tribute, Alan was also hailed by his Traitors co-stars, with Sir Stephen Fry sharing a video tribute, stating: “Despite the wickedness, despite the cruelty of the man, it’s very hard not to love him.”

Host Claudia Winkleman added: “He’s delicious, isn’t he? I’d like him on a cracker.”

Addressing the star-studded crowd, Alan confessed that he really was stunned by the honour, and only clocked that he was the recipient when Paloma rose up from the coffin in reference to their time on the BBC series.

“This is how thick I am, it was only when Paloma came out that I realised it’s me,” he joked. “I should have realised when they put me in the front row, I’m usually in the back with the people from Naked Attraction.”

Speaking backstage after accepting the award, he reflected on his stint hosting his Chatty Man chat show – which ran between 2009 and 2017 – and how far those who worked on it have come.

“I looked out there (in the crowd) and saw people I interviewed, runners and producers who are now getting NTAs themselves … it all came together in one big thing and I think that’s why I got a bit upset.

“I’ll also never forget Paloma poking her head out of a coffin and serenading me.”
