A lesser-known mobile network has frozen its prices
It’s an option for mobile consumers worried about the looming Spring 2027 mobile price hikes
Signing up to a mobile SIM or bundled device contract doesn’t guarantee a fixed price, as mid-contract increases have become a frustration for many mobile customers. One less well-known provider is helping users avoid the additional monthly charges.
Each spring, companies such as Sky Mobile, O2, Vodafone, and Three Mobile (among others) often raise their prices for contract customers, as inflation drives up monthly bills. Depending on the provider, this could mean an extra £1.50 to £4 per month.
While March and April might seem distant, it means anyone signing up to a contract now will be hit with a higher bill come spring. This is where Spusu could prove valuable, helping mobile customers reduce costs by competing with major networks and eliminating price rises, by keeping its prices frozen for the third consecutive year.
Avoiding price increases isn’t the only advantage, as demonstrated by its 40GB SIM-only package, which includes unlimited calling minutes; essentially, the daily cost works out to be 33p a day, if split by the average 30-day month. Spusu is backed by EE, one of Britain’s biggest mobile providers, with EE claiming it reaches 99% of the population.
At £9.90 per month, it may be marginally more than Sky’s £8 monthly charge (for the equivalent data allowance), but it offers greater advantages. But it won’t be around for long, as the deal ends on 11:59 PM tonight, Thursday, September 17.
Ditch mobile price hikes
Picking a rolling pay-as-you-go SIM with Spusu can help mobile consumers avoid the 2027 Spring price hikes. Their plans also include inclusive EU data and roaming.
Not ending anytime soon, Spusu’s cheaper £4.90 a month 5GB SIM. This has the perk of no price hikes and EU roaming data included too, users will get 3GB of data to use when in the EU and 500minutes of EU roaming.
On the surface, Sky’s £8 monthly 40GB package appears more attractive, simply being £1.90 cheaper per month, reports the Express. However, matching the benefits found in Spusu’s package will push costs higher elsewhere, particularly features such as EU Roaming data. Beyond its price guarantee extending to 2027, Spusu’s 40GB offering bundles 10GB of EU data usage and 500 minutes for calls abroad.
Sky SIM customers, by contrast, face a £2 daily charge for EU usage through the additional ‘Roaming Passport Plus’ add-on. For frequent travellers, Spusu’s marginally elevated monthly fee becomes far more reasonable.
Beneath its 40GB SIM offering, Sky notes: “Data plan may increase during the 12-month minimum term”. This permits the company to raise prices for subscribers, though Sky must provide 30 days’ warning and allow penalty-free exits, according to guidance from Money Saving Experts.
Giffgaff is another provider well known for offering greater flexibility around contract duration and price adjustments, yet Spusu customers receive twice the data compared to Giffgaff’s equivalent package. Spusu’s 40GB plan costs £9.90 monthly, whereas Giffgaff’s 20GB rolling contract is pricier despite delivering just half the data allowance, at £10 per month. Though more costly, Giffgaff remains worth considering for straightforward mobile contracts, with subscribers enjoying the convenience of adjusting their plan monthly should data requirements change.
For mobile users primarily seeking to dodge mid-contract price rises, Spusu emerges as an exceptional option. While Sky Mobile might appear £1.90 cheaper per month on the surface, its 12-month contract exposes customers to yearly price hikes and substantial daily roaming fees.
Although Giffgaff provides a comparable 30-day rolling plan to Spusu, this advantage comes with a heftier price tag.
Our technology team hasn’t yet tested Spusu’s mobile network, but according to Trustpilot feedback, it enjoys a strong reputation for adaptability and network performance.
One consumer pointed out the ease of using the plan: “The flexibility is just as good. You can change your tariff at any time without the usual ‘contract jail frustration.
“They use the EE network for coverage, so the signal is reliable everywhere, but they run their own server infrastructure and software, which seems to make a real difference in terms of speed and stability.”
Another Spusu SIM customer highlighted the EU roaming benefit: “A few months ago, I moved from one of the big networks to a SIM-only plan with Spusu. I was a little nervous as I have had bad experiences with low-cost networks in the past.
“However, Spusu has been brilliant, and I can’t recommend them highly enough. The EU roaming works perfectly, and I have also used roaming in Lebanon, which worked perfectly and was far cheaper than Vodafone. Overall, I think Spusu is brilliant.”
Regarding its operation on the EE network, one reviewer described it: “As decent as any other network.” However, they noted one drawback: “One small problem with SMS from companies not coming through.”
A separate customer praised how the Spusu SIM setup was ‘smooth and simple’, before emphasising the benefits of ‘great EU roaming and amazing cost saving’.
