A Celebrity MasterChef judge was left declaring “I cannot believe it” after a star served up raw meat.
The long-running BBC cooking show returned to screens on Wednesday (September 16) for another instalment that saw the final four tasked with creating their signature dish from day 1 – but reimagined to show how far they have come.
The remaining contestants, Sue Cleaver, Shakira Khan, Emily Campbell and Lauren Steadman quickly got to work creating their dishes. As for Sue, she planned to create cumin and coriander rack of lamb, with rice pilaf inside a filo pastry cigar.
As well as all that, she whipped up a tabbouleh salad and a muhammara-inspired sauce made from roasted red pepper and walnuts. However, when it came to her feedback, the judges Grace Dent and Giorgio Locatelli were not too impressed.
Cutting into the lamb, Giorgio said: “That meat is kind of raw.” Sue replied: “I think I was so worried about going the other way.” Giorgio did compliment her muhammara-inspired sauce though, calling it “unbelievable”.
However, he said: “The problem is the rack of lamb… Sue!” A disappointed Sue said: “I know,” as Grace shared her thoughts, telling her the lamb was “too rare for me”.
She added: “If the meat was cooked, this would be an exemplary plate.” Sue said: “Sorry,” before revealing backstage: “I’m feeling really cross with myself. I made a really careless mistake. But that’s all it takes.”
Discussing Sue’s dish backstage, Grace said: “It looked the part, but we cannot get away from the fact that the lamb was really undercooked.” Giorgio replied: “I cannot believe it. It’s a real shame.”
Unfortunately for Sue though, she ended up getting eliminated from the competition later on. She said: “It was my time to go, it was totally understandable. I’d had an absolute ball, I’ve had so much fun. I’ve loved every second of it.”
Meanwhile, earlier on in the series, Sue ended up suffering an injury just minutes into making a dish. She said: “Plaster already, cut myself! That didn’t take long did it.”
A crew member could then be seen putting a plaster on Sue’s finger as she giggled. She said: “I did nearly cut my finger off. It’s only day one!” Talking to judges Giorgio and Grace, Sue admitted: “I’m panicking a bit, I’ve cut myself already.”
She then went and retrieved the knife and explained: “On my very special knife that my son bought me especially for this.” Giorgio replied: “That’s a Japanese knife, that’s a very sharp one!”
