Beeston restaurant closes until further notice just months after takeover

‘An exciting fresh start’ is being promised though

A Nottinghamshire restaurant has closed until further notice just months after a management takeover – but customers have been promised an “exciting fresh start”.

Tony’s Bar & Grill in Chilwell Road, Beeston, announced on Tuesday, September 15, that it had temporarily closed ahead of a change of ownership.

Matt Roberts, who had been the head chef, and his daughter Paige, who worked behind the bar, said in March that the owners had given them 12 weeks to turn the business around after it suddenly closed earlier that month.

“We would like to inform all our customers that Tony’s Bar & Grill is now closed until further notice,” the grill’s management said in a recent social media post addressing its future.

“We appreciate your continued support and understanding during this time.”

The managers of Tony’s said they were sorry to inconvenience regulars and people with bookings, but added “we couldn’t help it”.

They added that private parties would proceed once the premises were under new management, but did not provide an opening date.

Customers who had used the deals website Groupon would be fully refunded, their statement explained, and anyone with questions was asked to contact them through social media.

While the restaurant’s management did not share many details about its future, it is set to reopen under new owners and managers.

“Behind the scenes, we are working towards an exciting fresh start, with some changes underway that we look forward to sharing with you over the coming weeks.

“Please keep your eyes peeled for further updates – we’re excited for what the future holds with new owners and management and we can’t wait to welcome you back.”

Mr Roberts, who previously spoke to the Nottingham Post about the reopening of Tony’s earlier this year, said in March that the eatery’s turnover had been low due to a lack of promotion.

He and his daughter had planned to return it to profitability through social media advertising and by slashing poorly-selling items from the menu.

Tony’s opened in 2024 in the former home of Lounge Bar & Restaurant, and before that, Latino.
