Bookish star Mark Gatiss confirms Christmas special and season 3

Ahead of Bookish returning for season 2 next week, fans have been given some additional good news – the hit detective show will return!

Not only will Bookish be coming back for a third season of six more episodes next year, but it will also be returning for a two-part festive special this Christmas.

The special, titled The Crown of Destiny, will see Gatiss’s character Gabriel Book returning for a seasonal mystery packed with festive charm, surprises and a dash of Christmas spirit.

Gatiss confirmed news of the show’s return in an exclusive video for Radio Times, filmed in Belgium on the set of the festive special. You can watch that at the top of this article right now.

Production on Bookish season 3 is set to begin later this year, with storylines and guest stars set to be revealed in the coming months.

All this means fans can go into season 2 knowing it won’t be the last they see of Gatiss’s Gabriel Book and his bookshop on Archangel Lane.

Season 2 will see the return of central cast members including Polly Walker, Connor Finch, Elliot Levey, Blake Harrison and Buket Kömür, while new guests stars set to appear include Jason Watkins (McDonald & Dodds), Miranda Richardson (Blackadder), Simon Callow (Doctor Who), Rupert Graves (Sherlock), Claire Skinner (Outnumbered) and more.

The season 3 renewal perhaps shouldn’t be a surprise. After all, the series has been a smash hit for U&Alibi, and Gatiss revealed at the Radio Times Covers Party earlier this year that he was already writing season 3.

“That might be an exclusive, I don’t know,” Gatiss acknowledged, before saying that future episodes “would involve books. And murder – never theft.”

Bookish season 2 starts at 8pm on Wednesday 26 August on U&Alibi.
