Brendan Fraser is back on the set of The Mummy for the first time in 18 years after the Hollywood actor was spotted in character in Suffolk as intrepid explorer Rick O’Connell

Brendan Fraser has been spotted on the set of The Mummy sequel for the first time. The actor, 57, is reprising his role in the franchise after 18 years.
He was seen in costume while filming in Suffolk. It marks the fourth film in the series and brings Brendan back to the storyline as his career continues to flourish once again.
Brendan last starred in the 2008 take of the horror-thriller, featuring in The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. He rejoins co-star Rachel Weisz, who confirmed her return days earlier and was seen filming a different scene in London.
Brendan was in character as cameras captured what appeared to be the star driving a high-speed car. The Hollywood actor was pictured out of the vehicle, while a stunt double was called to sit in the driver’s seat of the rocket-like vehicle.
The vehicle has “Great Britain Speed Shop” emblazoned on the side, while there were British and American flags on the tail.
Brendan and his lookalike wore an outfit consisting of a leather jacket and brown matching gloves and trousers. They were covered in what appeared to be a sooty substance at the former military base.
Brendan had a heavily worn helmet in his hands in another shot, before placing it under his arm. He was also seen appearing to put it on a young child’s head. The Mummy was set in 1926, so Fraser’s character would be considerably older by 1957.
That could explain why we’re seeing a speed-trial sequence three decades later – and potentially gives us the first clue about when the new film is set.
Back in January, Brendan had hinted about his return to play the part of his intrepid explorer Rick O’Connell. Reflecting on reprising the iconic role that first propelled him into the spotlight over 25 years ago, Fraser told the Radio Times at the time he would “absolutely” be keen to step back into that world.
He went on to say he always liked the idea of returning to The Mummy and “always will”. The Mummy first hit cinemas in 1999 and saw the actor and Weisz join Scottish star John Hannah.
The movie went on to become the highest grossing film of that year and spawned two sequels The Mummy Returns in 2001 and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor in 2008.
The latter movie saw Fraser return, alongside Hannah, but Weisz wasn’t part of the cast. Nonetheless, the film also included Jet Li, Michelle Yeoh, Maria Bello, Russell Wong, and Liam Cunningham, among others. The new movie marks Fraser and Weisz’s first reunion since The Mummy Returns.
The latest instalment had been initially set to hit the big screen in May 2028. However, the release has since been moved forward and is now scheduled for release on October 15, 2027.
