The movie version of the French talent agency comedy, set five years after the show

The original French version of Call My Agent! was a hit on Netflix, and efforts to translate it elsewhere, including the UK and Germany, have been patchy at best. So now we have a movie that picks up five years after the end of the original when (spoiler alert) the Paris talent agency finally fell apart and everyone went their separate ways.
The main plot is about agent-turned-movie director Andréa (Camille Cottin), whose debut project starts to fall apart when the star drops out to do a Wes Anderson movie. Who better to call on to fix it than Noémie (Laure Calamy), one of her old underlings, who is now a reality TV producer?
There’s a real sense of ‘getting the band back’ together for the film, which shoots for just the same kind of high-energy farce that the series did, and it’s certainly good to see everyone back. The show was known for its celebrity cameos and that’s in place here too, with appearances from French citizen George Clooney and Eva Longoria who has, in the real world, been involved with developing on a Spanish-language version of the series. Both cameos are gently self-satirising – Longoria’s crops up early on but Clooney’s is around 34 minutes in, and is the funnier of the two. (117 minutes)
