Dana Margolin has shared her debut solo single ‘Big Beautiful Sound’.
Rightly lauded for her work with UK group Porridge Radio, Dana Margolin is now walking a solo path. Keeping fans updated on her eloquent Substack, those essays have traced her ongoing evolution.
Out now, new single ‘Big Beautiful Sound’ is the start of a fresh chapter. Taking a break from a long period of touring in April 2025, Dana – together with friends Sam Yardley and Dan Hutchins – decamped to rural Somerset, utilising a converted barn as a makeshift studio.
New song ‘Big Beautiful Sound’ emerged from that space – as ever with Dana it’s exquisitely done, the subtle, spartan arrangement augmented by a choir of voices supplied by some close friends.
Dana Margolin says of the song:
“We go all the way down together, down a spiral staircase into the centre of the earth where there is darkness and nothing can grow, and we chose to go there, and wasn’t it fun, and right there at the deepest depths of the journey is a glowing ember, something luminous, a big and beautiful sound.”
Set to play London’s Golden Hinde on October 7th, the songwriter will also spent time on the road this Autumn supporting Ezra Furman.
Alongside this, Dana has also shared an evocative black and white video, shot by acclaimed director and filmmaker Mike Mills (Talking Heads, Air, Pulp, The National) and Joe Nankin, and produced by Lana Kim, Jett Steiger and Hana Antrim of Ways & Means.
Tune in now.
