One of the legitimate questions a lot of people have about the Reverse Sussexit is “why in the world did the Duchess of Sussex agree to come back to live in the UK whatsoever?” People accept that Prince Harry has been homesick and that he misses spending time with his deadbeat father, and that he also misses seeing the Spencers regularly. On Harry’s side, this (hopefully temporary) relocation makes sense. But what about Meghan? Why did she suddenly agree to this? And what will she work on in the coming year? Well, there’s a rumor that she was offered an acting role in the UK:
The Duchess of Sussex has been offered an acting role in the UK, according to reports. Entertainment sources told news.com.au that the Duchess had been offered a role in an upcoming project based in Britain.
The Telegraph revealed on Wednesday that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were returning to the UK later this month, with their children Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five, already enrolled at a British school before September.
The details of the acting project have not yet been confirmed, but it is thought to be one of the reasons behind the couple’s decision to return to the UK. Sources close to the Sussexes have not denied the report.
She returned to acting for the first time in nearly 10 years, playing herself in the upcoming comedy Close Personal Friends starring Lily Collins and Brie Larson.
I know the randomness of this irritates the Sussex Squad, but I actually hope it’s true. I hope Meghan stays booked and busy, and I hope she has a full slate of projects and businesses occupying her time during the relocation. I hope she’s taking acting gigs and I hope she launches As Ever internationally and I hope she takes on more commercial work. Meanwhile, Rob Shuter has another side:
Meghan Markle may be willing to return to Britain — but sources tell Naughty But Nice this is very much a trial, not a permanent move.
According to friends, Meghan has agreed to spend six months based in the UK, while keeping the Sussexes’ Montecito home and their vacation property in Portugal. She is not giving up either house, making it clear that California still feels like home.
The bigger problem? Meghan knows almost nobody in Britain outside the royal world, and that isolation could make the transition incredibly difficult again.
One friend tells Naughty But Nice: “Meghan is agreeing to try it, but she isn’t moving back to Britain. Six months is the test. She wants an exit strategy.”
And that arrangement could put enormous pressure on the Sussex marriage. Harry has spent years insisting that his future is with his wife and children in California. Meghan, meanwhile, would be leaving behind her mom, the life and support system she built there. Friends fear the question eventually becomes unavoidable: where does the family actually belong?
Another source tells Naughty But Nice: “Eventually, Harry may have to choose between his wife’s happiness and his country. That is the nightmare scenario nobody wants to talk about.”
Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, is said to be heartbroken by the prospect of her daughter moving so far away. A six-month experiment may sound temporary. But for the Sussexes, it could become the biggest test of their marriage yet.
The “six month” agreement makes no sense, since six months from now would be February 2027, the middle of her children’s school year. You know what makes sense? A one-year agreement to relocate, to try this out, to help Harry out as he’s involved in the preparations for Invictus Birmingham (scheduled for July 2027). I do not believe that Meghan wants to raise her kids in the UK or that she wants to live in the UK for longer than a year. And yeah, it’s possible that is an indicator of marriage trouble. Harry and Meghan still haven’t issued one on-the-record statement about any of this and we’re just taking it on faith that they’re on the same page on everything.
Update: It’s being widely confirmed that Meghan plans to return to acting, likely in Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen series?? Apparently, there are early talks about Meghan taking a role in the third season.
