Jimmy Carr co-writes this very silly movie spoof of Downton Abbey-style dramas

Downton Abbey has teetered close to self-parody at times but this is taken to the next level by Fackham Hall, a spoof co-written by Jimmy Carr. It opens in a similar manner to the much-loved ITV drama, with a landed family facing the loss of a male heir – but, because this is comedy, they haven’t just lost one male heir. Oh no. From there, the plot sees the 400-year history of the Davenport family at Fackham hanging on whether daughter Poppy (Emma Laird) will agree to marry her first cousin, Archie (Tom Felton).
Some gags are very silly, some quite rude and one or two just don’t land at all, but a cast led by Damian Lewis, Katherine Waterston and Thomasin McKenzie do just enough to keep the chortles coming. (97 minutes)
