The concept of a Fast & Furious TV series was teased earlier this year by the franchise’s lead star Vin Diesel. As part of Universal’s celebration of the first film’s 25th anniversary they revealed through Deadline a show has officially been greenlit with Mike Daniels (PONIES) and Wolfe Coleman (Shades of Blue) set to serve as showrunners and writers.
Plot details for the series are yet to be revealed, but it will likely revolve around a new crew of thieves with a penchant for driving fast cars. Daniels and Coleman will executive produce alongside Diesel, One Race’s Sam Vincent, Original Film’s Neal H. Moritz and Pavun Shetty and Jeff Kirschenbaum and Chris Morgan.
Since the franchise began in 2001 it has made over $7 billion at the box office through its ten films and one spin-off. While the first film was a crime thriller with Paul Walker’s Brian O’Connor going undercover in a theft ring led by Diesel’s Dominic Toretto, the films have become high-tech spy thrillers with Toretto and his crew allying with secret government agencies and coming into conflict with global terrorists and criminals.
The eleventh and supposedly final film of the mainline franchise, Fast Forever, is set for a March 17th, 2028 release with production expected to start in December.
