Josh Ruben’s romantic slasher is getting a sequel and Heart Eyes 2 will be in cinemas in 2028. More on that below.
Update, 21.9.2026: Five months after we learned that Heart Eyes would be getting a sequel that will hit cinemas on 11th February 2028, Paramount has moved the film up one week. We’ll now be enjoying the Heart Eyes Killer on the big screen on 4th February 2028. So far, the only other film scheduled for that date is Universal’s Murder, She Wrote.
There’s still no word on cast, but we do know that Josh Ruben is still in line to return to directing duties and has co-written the script with Darcy Fowler.

23.4.2026: Heart Eyes was perhaps one of the strangest, enjoyable horror movies of 2025. Josh Ruben’s film was both a romantic comedy and a brutal slasher and it seemed to appeal to audiences as the film grossed a respectable $33m on a modest $18m budget. Not exactly a box office smash, but enough to make a lot of people happy.
So it’s no wonder that Paramount Pictures is keen on getting a sequel off the ground. As Variety reports, Heart Eyes 2 will hit cinemas 11th February 2028 and Ruben is returning to direct it.
The first film featured a killer, the titular Heart Eyes, who hunted couples on Valentine’s day and mistook Olivia Holt and Mason Gooding as one and tried to kill them. Gigi Zumbado, Michaela Watkins, Devon Sawa, and Jordana Brewster also starred in the film, but it hasn’t been confirmed who might return for the sequel and there’s also no details on the plot.
Rube will co-write the script with Darcy Fowler, based on a story by Christopher Landon and Michael Kennedy.
In our review of Heart Eyes, we praised the film for constantly putting effort into reversing traditional gender roles and even said Heart Eyes may very well be “a future cult classic in the making.”
Ruben has a busy few years ahead of him. It was also announced earlier this week that Kumail Nanjiani, Jim Belushi, Brittany O’Grady and Taylor John Smith will join Tatiana Maslany in Ruben’s upcoming sci-fi thriller Green Park as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. The film will be set in Green Bank, West Virginia, a real town known for its restricted radio and electronic transmissions.
Ruben took to Bluesky to share the news and noted that the project has been in development for four years and is finally happening.
