Prince William allegedly wants King Charles to go further with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. “William wants to destroy Harry and Meghan,” Express editor JJ Anisiobi claimed on Daily Expresso.
He said sources told him William had pushed Charles to act against the Sussexes. “William was very instrumental in getting that letter out. He’s taking it as a big win and it’s given him hope that his father might finally be seeing this more clearly,” commentator Mark Dolan said.
The comments came after a palace letter made it clear that Harry and Markle are still non-working royals. Lord Chamberlain Lord Benyon sent it on September 7, following Charles’ instructions. The letter went out to senior government, military, and other officials. Harry and Markle’s team also received it.
The couple are still private citizens with their own businesses and charity work. However, they’re not working members of the royal family. Their HRH titles are still on hold, so they don’t use “His Royal Highness” or “Her Royal Highness.”
The letter didn’t take away their Sussex titles, though. Still, that hasn’t stopped the claims about William’s role. Anisiobi said, “Apparently, William is the man who was behind that letter. William said to his father, King Charles, ‘You must do this.’”
The palace said Charles told Lord Benyon to send the guidance after questions came up following Harry and Markle’s return to Britain. But Dolan claimed William now wants Charles to go one step further. “William is not going to stop pushing until the king agrees to take away their titles,” he said.
Dolan added, “He hates that he has to constantly raise the issue with his father. It’s caused a lot of strife between them, but it means protecting the monarchy and protecting his father from making a colossal mistake. It’s worth it to William.”
He continued, “As long as they are Duke and Duchess of Sussex then they can pretend to be royal and that’s a problem for the family and it’s a problem for the monarchy.” Dolan also noted unnamed insiders had described William’s feelings towards Harry in stark terms.
He argued that William’s alleged position isn’t simply about the brothers’ personal “beef.” Now, it is not “just a private family row. William’s got a great sense of public duty. His loyalty is to the crown.” Harry and William have been distant since Harry and Markle stepped back from royal duties in 2020.
The Sussexes then spent six years mainly living in Montecito, California. They came back to Britain in August 2026 with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. The family now lives privately in the Cotswolds. Still, there’s no confirmed plan for Harry and Markle to resume royal duties.
Dolan was blunt about the possibility. “It’s sweet justice for Harry that ultimately his brother will be deciding on this royal return. And at the moment the decision’s made, it’s a big fat no,” he claimed.
