How To Watch Insidious: Out Of The Further At Home

Much like the demons that haunt the Further, the “Insidious” movie franchise always seems to be lurking around the corner, ready to leap out at a moment’s notice. It did just that this summer with “Insidious: Out of the Further,” a film that proves there’s still (after)life in the horror property despite 2023’s “Insidious: The Red Door” appearing to wrap things up with a nice big bow. Yes, “Out of the Further” marked yet another win at the box office for the Lipstick-Face Demon, The Man Who Can’t Breathe, and so on, all the while pleasing audiences and a respectable number of critics to boot. Now, those who are eager to celebrate October by finally watching or revisiting the flick may do so from the comfort of their home, starting with its release on digital on October 6, 2026.

Shifting its focus away from the Lamberts (who were at heart of most of the previous “Insidious” films), “Out of the Further” follows Amelia Eve’s Gemma Hall, a single mom and dental hygienist who’s haunted by her mother’s bizarre death by (apparent) suicide when she was just a child. As it turns out, though, Gemma is a “courier,” i.e. someone who can carry items (including living beings or specters) back and forth between reality and the Further. Unfortunately, this also puts her in the crosshairs of Cyrus Lam (Sam Spruell), a once human cult leader turned demon who has hatched a scheme to lead his fellow Further ghouls in an invasion of the living world. (Not if Lin Shaye’s friendly ghost Elise Rainier has anything to say about it, of course.)

Intrigued yet? If so, you’ll want to give “Out of the Further” a look, either on digital and/or when it comes to Blu-ray and DVD beginning on December 1, 2026.

Insidious: Out of the Further will feature some creepy extras on Blu-ray and DVD

As written and directed by Jacob Chase (with Chase and David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick of the “Conjuring” and “Orphan” franchises sharing a story credit), “Insidious: Out of the Further” has a crackerjack premise that adds another wrinkle to this horror franchise’s mythology while at the same time keeping the true nature of the Further amorphous and unclear (as it should be). It also manages to carry over the property’s central theme of inherited trauma, this time with a refreshing focus on mother-daughter relationships. It can all be a little hokey and basic, sure, but Chase puts his background in designing real-world haunted houses to clever use to craft some inventive set pieces here, most notably a pillow fort that transforms into an endless, liminal nightmare that feels right at home in the year of “Backrooms.” (That and some cheerfully nasty dentistry horror related to Gemma’s job.) What you wind up with is a sturdy “Insidious” sequel that features “a simple story but scream-worthy scares,” to quote our own “Out of the Further” review.

As for those bonus goodies: The DVD and Blu-ray versions of “Insidious: Out of the Further” will feature deleted and extended scenes, along with a featurette titled “The Cult & The Further” and a director’s commentary by Chase. Naturally, you can simply wait for the film to eventually make its way onto streaming and watch it at no added cost beyond the price of a subscription … but what better way to celebrate scary season than reuniting with your old pals from the Further?
