Lady Gaga surprised fans over the weekend as it was revealed she has secretly welcomed her first child via surrogate.
The singer, 40, and her fiancé Michael Polansky, 42, welcomed a daughter named Rose Bean Polansky on June 9 at 11.19pm at Los Angeles‘s famed Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, according to TMZ.
Gaga has been keeping a low profile since wrapping up her latest tour, The Mayhem Ball, in April, only being seen in a social media snap taken by a fan last month.
‘She has been in full nesting mode and has never been happier in her life because being a mother was a very large goal, even more than becoming a successful musician,’ a source told the Daily Mail.
While fans have been left confused by the surprise baby news, it’s wonderful to see Gaga has finally found her happily ever after following years of dating turmoil.
The Bad Romance singer had a turbulent love life before meeting Michael in 2019, with the couple getting engaged five years later.
While it marked Gaga’s third engagement, the decision to welcome a child proves that she is more serious and comfortable than ever about her future with Michael.
So how did Gaga get here? The Daily Mail reveals her dating life.

Record producer and songwriter Rob Fusari knew Gaga back when she was still Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, with the pair involved in bitter lawsuit after their split in 2007
ROB FUSARI: 2006 – 2007
Record producer and songwriter Rob Fusari knew Gaga back when she was still Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, and claimed to have helped her secure a record deal at just 23.
Their romantic connection was first flagged in Gaga’s unofficial biography Poker Face: The Rise And Rise Of Lady Gaga by Maureen Callahan.
In the book it was revealed Gaga became romantically involved with her then manager even though he was engaged and living with his fiancée.
Gaga claimed in 2009 that she signed her first record deal with Rob because he threatened her.
The following year, Rob attempted to sue the singer for £20million claiming he co-wrote some of her most popular hits and even chose her stage name.
His lawyer Robert Meloni said: ‘It’s an age-old story in the music business. You become famous and you turn on the person who discovered you.’
Rob also claimed he came up with the name Lady Gaga after trying to send a text message with the words Radio Gaga, a reference to the Queen song. The predictive text function changed Radio to Lady.
The writ added: ‘Germanotta loved it and Lady Gaga was born.’ Fusari then claims to have introduced her to a music executive at Interscope Records, who released her first album, The Fame.
Rob was seeking a 20 per cent cut from song royalties and 15 per cent of merchandise sales as part of a 2006 contract he says he signed with the singer’s label, Team Love Child and Mermaid Music.
Although he admitted receiving £403,000, he claimed that was not his full share.
During the case Rob, who split from the singer in January 2007, also cast her in court papers as ‘a woman scorned’.
‘When those personal relationships evolve into romantic entanglements, any corresponding business relationship usually follows the same trajectory so when one crashes they all burn,’ the papers say.
It is unclear as to whether the pair made any monetary deal however in November that year Rob agreed to dismiss the lawsuits.
LUC CARL: 2005 – 2011
Bar owner Luc Carl had many highs and lows with Gaga during their six-year on-off relationship, and they split in 2011
Bar owner Luc Carl had many highs and lows with Gaga during their six-year on-off relationship.
The couple first began dating in 2005, but the pressure of Gaga’s soaring chart success lead them to split a few months later.
Luc wrote a very public expose about their break-up in his book The Drunk Diet where he claimed that he had split from the singer because she had ‘shoved her fame down his throat’.
After some time apart, Gaga and Luc rekindled their romance and decided to give it a second shot in the summer of 2010.
She had publicised her adoration for Carl on numerous occasions that year and, most notably, opened up about her feelings during an interview with Rolling Stone magazine.
At the time, she confessed: ‘I’ve really never loved anyone like I loved him. Or like I love him. That relationship really shaped me.’
Although Gaga was blissfully in love not everyone was as happy with the pair rekindling their romance, with Luc’s ex-girlfriend claiming the singer had stolen Luc from her.
American actress Alex Stebbins said at the time that she didn’t stand a chance of keeping hold of her boyfriend of a year after the Poker Face star apparently decided she wanted him.
Alex claimed she couldn’t put up a fight to keep her romance alive as taking on Lady Gaga would be ‘like fighting Jesus’.
She said: ‘She’s the most powerful woman in the world, and there’s no winning.
‘She can literally have anything she wants and I had the one thing she couldn’t have, and that made her want it even more.’
Despite this verbal attack on the singer just a few months later it was reported that Gaga was left devastated after discovering that the barman was still seeing his girlfriend.
According to Grazia magazine, the couple had just got back from a romantic holiday in Texas, when Gaga found out that Carl was still seeing his girlfriend.
A friend close to the star told the magazine: ‘She’s only just got back together with Luc and now she’s frightened she’s going to lose him again because she simply can’t trust him.
‘She’s also upset because this seems to make her the ‘other woman’.’
Two years later a long term friend of Gaga’s, Brendan Jay Sullivan revealed more about Luc and Gaga in his book Rivington Was Ours: Lady Gaga, the Lower East Side, and the Prime of Our Lives.
Details from the early years of the pop star’s career were revealed in the book including mention of her ‘inattentive and possessive’ boyfriend – Luc.
‘The under-age girl looked a little lost,’ he wrote of their first chat. ‘Even her own boyfriend didn’t have time for her.’
Brendan called Luc a poor influence on Gaga, dictating whom she could talk to and where she could work while himself being ‘distracted by a small coterie of drunk girls.’
Gaga finally revealed their official split on The Graham Norton Show in May 2011 when she told a surprised audience: ‘I don’t have a boyfriend and I haven’t been on any dates recently.’

When the pair split less than a year later Gaga claimed she was heartbroken, saying: ‘Do you know the feeling of your heart being so terribly broken you can feel the blood dripping out?
‘When you have felt this, only then you know how I’m doing.’
However, Speedy claimed that he was the victim after a photo of her kissing another man was printed while they were still dating.
MATTHEW ‘DADA’ WILLIAMS: 2008 – 2010

Gaga dated the creative director of Haus of Gaga in 2009 after meeting him in a sushi restaurant a year earlier.
But in perhaps the singer’s cleanest break-up the pair ended the relationship in 2010 when they realised what a strong creative connection they had.
‘Dada is quite brilliant and we were crazy lovers, but I stopped it when we discovered what a strong creative connection we had.
‘I didn’t want it just to be about careless love,’ said the singer in the book Lady Gaga: Looking For Fame: The Life Of The Pop Princess by Paul Lester.
TAYLOR KINNEY: 2011 – 2016
Gaga’s first engagement was with Taylor Kinney, whom she met when he starred in her You And I music video, but they split in 2016 due to the pressures of their careers
Gaga’s first engagement was with Taylor Kinney, whom she met when he starred in her You And I music video.
Two years after meeting, head-over-heels Gaga hinted that she’d found her soul mate, telling Ellen DeGeneres: ‘He’s a hidden weirdo. He is extremely strange, actually, and we complement each others’ weirdness.
‘That’s actually one of the first things he ever said to me. It’s a Dr. Seuss quote, that you find in someone else a ‘compatible weirdness’. And it was one of the first things he said to me.’
Despite their apparently blissful relationship their fairy tale romance saw some rocky patches in 2012.
In January that year Brittany Sackett, Taylor’s ex, claimed Gaga ‘stole’ the actor from her.
‘I can definitely do better,’ the real estate agent told Heat magazine. ‘Lady Gaga has done me a favour.’
Brittany alleged that she dumped Taylor after he accidentally phoned her while he was with Gaga.
‘He apologised by text and on the phone, but I wasn’t giving him the time of day,’ she said.
‘He’s disloyal, he’s weak-willed, he’s got no backbone and he’s dishonest,’ Sackett concluded.
However Gaga disagreed and the pair pursued their relationship, brushing off split rumours in 2013.
Two years later, the couple got engaged on Valentine’s Day, with Taylor proposing with a heart shaped diamond that experts predicted was worth ‘no less than’ $500,000 (£325,000).
However, it wasn’t meant to be, and a year later the couple called it quits.
According to People magazine, the pair split up due to the pressures of their respective careers, with Taylor filming Chicago Fire on location and Gaga being busy touring.
CHRISTIAN CARINO: 2017 – 2019
Following her split from Taylor, Gaga found love again with Hollywood agent Christian Carino. They split in 2019 a year after getting engaged
Following her split from Taylor, Gaga found love again with Hollywood agent Christian Carino.
Christian was no stranger to showbiz world as an agent to some of the biggest stars in La La Land including Justin Bieber, Amber Heard, Simon Cowell, Miley Cyrus and Jennifer Lopez.
Gaga was said to have fallen hard and fast, with a source telling ET: ‘The amazing thing about their relationship is that he understands her work and career and he is there to guide her.
‘This relationship is different because Christian understands her on a more intimate level,’ the source added.
‘She trusts him fully and feels totally secure around him. They don’t get a lot of private time, but when they do, they love to have private getaways in fancy hotels.’
Within a year the couple were said engaged, but Gaga did not comment on the reports about her giant diamond ring until she referred to Christian as her ‘fiancé’ in a 2018 speech.
A year after the engagement, and amid rumours of a romance with her A Star Is Born co-star Bradley Cooper, it emerged the pair had split.
The split became clear when Gaga failed to mention Christian in her acceptance speech when she won a Grammy Award for her song Shallow.
Sources told People that the relationship ‘just didn’t work out’, adding that ‘relationships sometimes end’ and ‘there’s no long dramatic story.’
DAN HORTON: 2019
Gaga was first linked to sound engineer Dan Horton in the summer of 2019, but by October their romance had fizzled out
Gaga was first linked to sound engineer Dan Horton in the summer of 2019, when they were pictured passionately kissing during a lunch date in Studio City.
A diner told PEOPLE: ‘They were kissing as they spoke really close up,’ noting that they picked up Lemonade drinks.
‘She had a table in the front near the sidewalk, so she was clearly okay with being seen. She seemed very happy when interacting with the guy she was with.’
However, the singer revealed she had split from Dan while attending her friend Sarah Nicole Tanno’s bachelorette party in October 2019.
Taking a photo with the bride-to-be, Gaga wrote on her Instagram stories, ‘An about to be married woman and me, a single lady.’
MICHAEL POLANSKY: 2019 – PRESENT
Gaga and venture capitalist Polansky began dating back in 2019 after meeting at a charity event, and in 2024, she let slip they were engaged
Gaga and venture capitalist Polansky began dating back in 2019 after meeting at a charity event, and they first sparked romance rumours when they were seen kissing at a New Year’s Eve party in Las Vegas.
After going Instagram official in 2020, Gaga let slip in 2024 that they were engaged when she introduced Michael as her fiancé.
Speaking on the Graham Norton Show, she said: ‘He proposed on April 1st, and I thought he was joking.
‘Then when we went to the Olympics, we were filmed saying hello to the Prime Minister and I was caught on camera saying ”This is my fiancé”.
‘I had wanted to keep it a secret!’
Polansky is a 2006 graduate of Harvard University and is the executive director of Parker Foundation.
Throughout their years of dating, Gaga and Polansky have attended the Super Bowl, the BAFTAs, and the Critics Choice Awards together.
In August 2024 it was reported that wedding plans for the couple were underway and the prenup was being negotiated.
While the couple are yet to tie the knot, Gaga previously confessed that she and Polansky were considering an elopement involving ‘just going to a courthouse, just the two of us, and ordering Chinese food.’
In March of this year, Gaga shared an update on her and Polansky’s wedding plans, while calling in to Bruno Mars’s Romantic Radio TikTok Live
She said: ‘Me and my fiancé have been traveling all year, but we’re getting married soon. We were hoping you could choose a special song for us.’
