My weekly food shop is done at Aldi and Sainsbury’s – but 1 food item is tastier at M&S

For me, Aldi and Sainsbury’s cover most of my weekly shop – but when it comes to the quality of one key item, I always head to M&S.

The debate over where best to do the weekly food shop is an ongoing one, with opinions differing wildly depending on personal taste and budget. For many shoppers, a combination of convenience and value for money makes Aldi and Sainsbury’s the go-to choices.

While both retailers can cater for the majority of a weekly shop, there is one particular food category where the quality often falls short. That product is fruit — and more specifically, grapes.

Alongside its impressive range of own-brand produce, Marks and Spencer stands head and shoulders above the competition when it comes to the quality of its fruit.

Priced at £1.89 for both red and white seedless varieties, the grapes at Aldi can appear rather small and lacking in flavour, beyond any concerns about freshness.

The selection is equally broad, boasting doughnut peaches, golden kiwis, blueberries, lychees, and plenty more. Nevertheless, it’s the grapes that consistently find their way into the basket each week, particularly the white varieties. The quality and taste of grapes at M&S surpasses that of every other supermarket, and when all things are considered, the price difference isn’t substantial. At M&S, grapes retail at £2.50, or £2.65 for mixed seedless varieties. For that price, you get large, juicy and flavoursome grapes with a satisfying crunch in every bite — a perfect snack during warmer weather. While slightly more expensive than Aldi and Sainsbury’s, none of the grapes tend to go to waste, unlike those purchased elsewhere.
