To celebrate their opening, CURBSIDE coffee co. in Birmingham is serving all hot and cold drinks – including coffee, matcha, and chai – for just £1.

A new Birmingham café is opening tomorrow on Wednesday 30 September – and is offering up £1 drinks for the entire day.
CURBSIDE coffee co. is a ‘small and independent’ café offering ‘creative’ drinks – both hot and iced – as well as their own coffee blend created with Ithaka Roasters in Digbeth.
To celebrate the climb from coffee van to cosy café, excited customers can grab any beverage for that bargain price from 8am to 3pm in CURBSIDE’s new spot: inside the University of Birmingham Business School.

From classic cappuccinos to more intricate orders (the autumnal menu alone has both butterscotch brûlée lattes and pistachio praline hot chocolates), founder Josh Thomas only hopes to create a ‘genuine space’ offering ‘well sourced items’.

“Our products on offer are well thought-out,” he told BirminghamLive. “We’ve designed the taste profiles to what we believe is great coffee. And all the ingredients we use are genuine too.
“We use local suppliers like Craig Finch butchers in Harborne, Silvertree Bakery in Sutton Coldfield, and our roasters Ithaka in Digbeth.
“And then just delivering that in a way that creates a positive experience for everyone. It sounds cheesy, but hospitality touches everyone’s lives.
“I say to the team, ‘A coffee shop is where people choose to spend their money. So that should be the best product and best service possible.'”

Josh explained that the food is ‘fairly simple’ with a focus on ‘good quality, fresh, and locally sourced ingredients’.
The staple menu includes ‘breakfast and lunch sandwiches, jacket potatoes, and fresh salads’ – but next week, CURBSIDE is launching the seasonal menu, which promises to bring ‘a bit more fun’ to the table.
After quitting his job in 2023, Josh kickstarted his coffee-serving business in a tuktuk outside the University Birmingham train station in January 2024. After a brief telling off from staff, who said he could not park there, he was allowed to trade outside the university’s accommodation instead.

In 2025, Josh was permitted to move back to the train station – and many university students will be happy to hear the mobile café will remain alongside the new opening in the business school.
Josh praised the university’s Food Fellows team for always backing his tuktuk dreams, and was equally celebratory of the University of Birmingham Business School – without either, his café couldn’t have grown.
CURBSIDE is open to everyone, and hopes to be a ‘great place to come and work’, but customers should know parking nearby is in short supply – but it is a 12 minute walk from University (Birmingham) train station or a nine minute walk from Selly Oak high street.
