Taylor Frankie Paul steps away from ‘Secret Lives of Mormon Wives’

It seems Taylor Frankie Paul is done with “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives” — for now.

The embattled star of the Hulu reality series announced in an Instagram post on Monday that she has chosen to step away from the show.

In the post, Paul expressed her “gratitude” to “all the networks that supported me throughout this and gave me the chance to return. However I don’t desire to move forward like this.”

Paul suggested that her “Mormon Wives” cast members urged her to demand a bump in pay, saying her “voice was the only one that can make it happen and then they would work” from her demands.

“I’m grateful I never followed through with their requests of demands and I’m grateful I kept same pay out of fairness and integrity,” she wrote. “I treated production and crew with respect always, in fact they are ones who checked on me throughout this.”

Paul continued calling out members of the cast for ongoing bullying, adding that it’s a “pleasure” to bow out of the show “so they can continue.”

“I’ve almost convinced myself I’m deserving of all this pain and to a certain degree absolutely this is consequences of my actions,” she wrote. “My question has been how much suffering and scrutiny is going to be enough … I’m just relieved to be out.”

In a photo carousel accompanying the post, Paul added that she was sent messages stating “there was a group that wanted to get me to the point of committing suicide.”

The decision comes a week after it was revealed that Paul was expected to return for Season 6 of the series, which is currently filming. Paul was also set to lead Season 22 of ABC’s “The Bachelorette” until a leaked video of a 2023 domestic dispute between Paul and Mortensen made its way across the internet. In the clip, Paul threw a metal chair that appeared to hit her child, who was heard crying off camera. Though the entire season had been taped, ABC nixed the premiere, and “Secret Lives” also paused production.

Police subsequently investigated allegations of a second and third domestic violence incident involving Paul and Mortensen, and as a result of the inquiry, Paul lost custody of the son she shares with Mortensen in March. She also lost custody in June of the two children she shares with her ex-husband Tate Paul.

Paul was charged with aggravated assault, domestic violence in the presence of a child, child abuse with injury and criminal mischief. Paul entered into a plea in abeyance to aggravated assault. The other charges were dropped and her sentence was reduced so long as she followed the terms of her probation, which concluded last month.

Last week TMZ reported that Paul allegedly failed multiple drug tests in recent months and the court reduced her parenting time, limiting her hours of parenting each week to four hours with her two children with Tate and four hours with her son with Mortensen.

Paul’s legal issues caused production delays for “Secret Lives of Mormon Wives.” The series’ fifth season premiered this month and will have only five episodes.

Since then, the members of the cast have been embroiled in exchanges on social media.

Mikayla Matthews announced in a lengthy statement posted to Instagram last week that she “will not be continuing” on the Hulu reality TV series.

The MomTok influencer wrote that she wasn’t comfortable participating in a series that “continues to platform” behavior that she doesn’t agree with, “especially given my own experience growing up in a home with multiple forms of abuse.”

“Mormom Wives” cast mate Layla Taylor responded to Matthews’ announcement in an Instagram story saying that she planned to finish Season 6 and then decide whether she would continue with the show. And Mayci Neeley mirrored Taylor’s statement, saying her involvement was also up in the air.

Matthews’ exit followed fellow “Mormon Wives” cast member Whitney Leavitt’s announcement in May that Season 5 would be her last. Jen Affleck, another original cast member of the flagship series, is also reportedly leaving the show and joining the cast of its first spinoff, “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives: Orange County.”

Hulu had no comment on the development.
