Before 2026 is through, we’ll finally get to see what became of Cliff Booth – the stuntman of Once Upon A Time In Hollywood – in the 1970s. And yet, until now, the project has been kept tightly under wraps, with plot details scarce and no trailer to be seen. Not that you need such things to be excited for a film written by Quentin Tarantino, directed by David Fincher, and featuring the return of Brad Pitt in the role that won him an Oscar. But finally, here we have it: a trailer for The Further Mis-Adventures Of Cliff Booth has arrived, and it seems he’s going to be in all kinds of new trouble. Watch it here:
The Cliff Booth movie is set eight years after OUATIH, placing it in 1977 – and we get a little explanation from Booth on why he and Leonardo DiCaprio’s Rick Dalton parted ways: “Rick got too fat for me to double him anymore.” From what we see here, Cliff is now spending his time bartending, overseeing mud-wrestling matches, and working in the cinema. But he’s also become a Hollywood fixer, tasked with the kind of dodgy dealings that happen behind the scenes of all that movie glamour, a world away from the more carefree days of 1969. As the film’s new blurb puts it: “The fairytale is over”.
An extensive synopsis for the film has been unveiled, offering much more information about the dealings Cliff Booth is involved in this time: “[Cliff is] curious when he gets a call from talent agent Karen Crosby (Elizabeth Debicki), on behalf of her client, TV megastar Charlie Peters (Scott Caan) — a man known for doing his own stunts. And he’s further entertained and intrigued when he meets other characters in Charlie’s world, from his knowing wife Toni (Carla Gugino) to pro football champion turned screen star Roderick “Hot Rod” Harrison (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II). Then there are the Verdusco brothers (Matt Groove and JB Tadena), mysterious gangsters causing mayhem across the city. What was once a fairytale is now a crime story — a cocktail of violence, ambition, and desire that could only happen in LA.”
Fincher has always excelled at pulling off dark thrillers, and Tarantino has long loved his scuzzy pulpy crime cinema – hopefully, the two are a match made in heaven on The Further Mis-Adventures Of Cliff Booth. We’ll find out when the film hits IMAX screens on November 25, followed by a Netflix release on December 23.
