All three were born within 30 miles of each other south of Glasgow, in the coalfields of Lanarkshire and Ayrshire, and all three would begin their working lives as teenagers down the pit, before going on to shape the course of modern football. Full of archive footage and interviews, this riveting documentary pays tribute to three men whose steely determination, forged down the mines and through the Second World War, saw them rise to the pinnacle of sporting success.
As well as celebrating the three friends’ title-winning achievements at home and in Europe, the film also tells the wider story of football in the 20th-century, and its importance to the people of industrial cities like Glasgow, Manchester and Liverpool. (102 minutes)
