‘This Is a Sacrilege’: Meghan Markle’s One Controversial Food Choice Leaves British Commentators Raising Eyebrows

Meghan Markle recently visited The Falkland Arms in Great Tew, Oxfordshire, with her friend Kelly McKee Zajfen. Photos showed Markle enjoying fish and chips there. The Daily Mirror’s Royal Editor Russell Myers discussed Markle’s meal with Deputy Royal Editor Jennifer Newton on the Pod Save The King podcast.

According to the Express, they discussed the sauces served with the fish and chips. “This is a sacrilege,” Myers said with a laugh. “If it was curry sauce, I can say ‘fair enough.’ But not with the gravy, sorry,” Newton added. On a separate pub visit, Markle went for a different order.

According to The Sun, she chose gluten-free beer-battered haddock and chips. It was served with mushy peas and tartare sauce. Harry went with a chicken, ham and leek pie with seasonal greens, mashed potatoes, and gravy. The pub’s own menu also lists fish and chips with mushy peas and tartare sauce.

This makes Markle’s order a familiar British combination. Meanwhile, Zajfen gave fans a peek at her U.K. trip with Markle and the Sussex family. The longtime friends spent time together with their families. Zajfen also shared photos from their pub outing, including Markle with her baby son.

“Having the best time. There’s something so special about getting a taste of this magical place with my bestie, and having my sweet Jack along for the adventure. I’ve loved seeing this sweet chapter through her eyes and daily adventures! Especially getting to experience so many little firsts with Jack by my side,” she captioned.

She also gave a nod to their pub meal, writing, “Family time is just what the heart ordered. With a side of mashed peas and fish n chips! All of it has filled my heart.” Zajfen ended the post on a sweet note. “You’ve been so good to us. We’re leaving with full hearts and definitely leaving a piece of ours here,” she concluded.

Zajfen co-founded the Los Angeles-based Alliance of Moms. She has also appeared in Markle’s Netflix series With Love, Meghan. Markle’s recent visit came as the Sussexes returned to Britain with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

The family left their Montecito home in California for an extended stay in Harry’s home country. Harry has kept busy with Invictus since the return. He attended the first Invictus Spirit Awards in London on September 17.

The following day, he headed to Birmingham to launch the Invictus INSPIRE education program. He also met students and former competitors and played pickleball with them. Most recently, on October 1, Harry addressed NATO’s Military Committee by video link during a meeting in Brussels.

He spoke about his own experience leaving the Army and the work Invictus does for wounded, injured, and sick service personnel and veterans. Markle has also been spotted at a few different places since returning to the U.K. She was reportedly seen at Soho Farmhouse in Oxfordshire earlier in September.

Then, on September 21, Markle was photographed at The Three Horseshoes in Asthall, Oxfordshire. She was there with Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi. The trio was seen chatting and laughing outside the pub.
