We have new winners… “so we’ll need to rename the show” says an opulently gowned Siobhán McSweeney.
That can only mean that a pair of faithfuls have successfully ousted all the traitors to claim the prize money for themselves.
They’re “an unlikely duo that came together to beat the traitors” — they’re Anna and Diego.
Let’s look back at how it all played out.
It’s the last day and faithful Diego is first in for his brekkie. He tells us at home that he’s loved being in a “secret couple with Denis”, has enjoyed “all the chaos I created in the Castle” and muses that “we are immersed in this paranoia”.
- Traitor Carla is delighted that she had “everyone hoodwinked” the whole way but wants us all to be aware that she’s earned her longevity by emphasising that “I worked my arse off”.
- Traitor Pauric is confident and says he’s “buzzing. I have thrown myself into it 100%”. And to be fair to him he has definitely played the game. He also says it’s hard to know who to trust and laughs when he notes the irony of that complaint.
- Faithful Anna is still a bit chastened from her “weak moment in a mission” but assures us she is more confident now.
Off in a helicopter to the final and highly dramatic mission, a trip which three players absolutely relish and poor Carla does not enjoy.
They have to zip around on a boat steered by two masked henchmen to visit 19 floating coffins representing all the other players who didn’t make it this far. Ten of these coffins will contain cash. Diego very quickly figures out that the money is in coffins named for people who weren’t saved from the last coffin mission.
They then have to wade overboard to collect more money from spooky scarecrows. Poor Carla is not having a good day as she takes a dunk here.
Then it’s off to collect keys from lobster pots attached to buoys — the keys will open padlocks on a floating detonator that lights the flame circle on the shore. Success all round and that’s an extra €10k in the prize pot which is now at €45,850.
Back at the Castle, Carla bonds with Siobhán in a quick private chat: “I’m sick of doing nights out in that conclave. People don’t believe the hours we put in, working overtime.”
If you thought previous round tables were tense then this one is definitely next level.
There’s a lot of declarations of faithfulness through three rounds of voting which still leads to a deadlock between banishing Anna or Carla.
Diego scores a double vote in a ‘chest of chance’ and that’s it for Carla, the OG traitor.
Out to the firepit head the two faithfuls and one traitor.
Another optional banishment round, which was opted for by all three, sees Pauric eliminated.
Anna is asked to officially reveal her status. Fair play to Diego for keeping that poker face when he hears her quickly say she’s a faithful.
He then does a tasty job of dragging out the suspense: “So firstly, I want to bow to you, Siobhán, for having invited me here to your crazy castle. I had such an amazing time. If I win the money, I would love to go on a honeymoon with my husband, and that’s going to happen…”
Anna’s dejection turns to absolute elation when she realises that it’s a shared prize as they are both faithfuls.
Hugs, fireworks, tears, they’re all there.
And there’s just time for Diego to phone husband Denis the banished faithful.
That gives us this gem of a convo.
: “Remember when you said that I’m terrible with this game? Do you want to take that back?”
: “You’re amazing. How much did we win, babes?”
: “We?”
