‘East Street won’t be the same’

A popular vegan cafe in South Bristol has today announced that it will be closing its doors for good in the coming weeks.
Vx Bristol on East Street in Bedminster shared a post to its Instagram page on Tuesday announcing its upcoming closure.
The team wrote: “Sadly we have to announce that Vx Bristol will be closing its doors in the next coming weeks. Around the 13th of October, but we will give the exact date when confirmed.
“Our landlord has recently decided to sell his property as our lease is ended and we don’t currently have any plans to start over somewhere else but who knows! If you have a gift card or a voucher from us please don’t miss our last days!
“Whether you are a regular, were a regular but moved, are obsessed like me with our mac ‘n’ cheese burrito, never had a chance to come, just learned about us and would like to check us out, please come and visit us for our last days. See you soon!”
Vx Bristol opened its doors way back in December 2015 and, in 2020, the Bristol restaurant had been named the third best vegan restaurant in the world by Big Seven Travel – one of only five restaurants in England to make the global list.
Known for its ‘indulgent vegan junk food‘, including mac ‘n’ cheese burgers, kebabs, burritos and more, the brand was founded by Rudy Penando and Amandine Tchou, who launched their first site at Kings Cross, London, in 2010 before moving to East Street in Bedminster.
The French nationals were also known to serve up a delectable taste of their native country, with a range of French pastries rounding off the menu.
Taking to the comments section beneath the announcement, fans and locals were quick to share their sadness at the news. One said: “I’m so sad to see this! I really hope you can reopen somewhere else.
“Coming to Vx every day helped get me through a very difficult postpartum, it’s a very special place to me. Hope to see you pop up somewhere else soon!”
A second wrote: “I imagine posting this wasn’t easy. You’ve been such an amazing impact to the Bristol (south west) animal rights and Vegan scene and this really sucks! You’re a legend and you will be missed by many!”
While a third commented: “This is devastating. Vx has been a staple vegan venue in Bristol for years, we definitely couldn’t have done it without you. What a loss.”
And a fourth said: “East Street will never be the same without Vx”.
