Of the two, Prince Harry has been the most publicly open about a desire to reconcile. After Charles announced his cancer diagnosis in 2024, the Duke of Sussex had called for a definitive reunion: “I would love reconciliation with my family,” he told the BBC the following year.
“There’s no point in continuing to fight. Life is precious. I don’t know how much longer my father has. It would be nice to reconcile,” he added.
He has met with his father several times since then, including once last July, along with wife Meghan Markle and their children, Archie and Lilibet. Prince William, who reportedly remains stung by the public accusations made by his brother and his wife after they stepped back from royal duties in 2020, is said to be less open to a reunion.
That’s where their dad might come to the rescue. The King reportedly “raised no objections” to the organization of a “thanksgiving ceremony” in honor of the late Princess of Wales, according to the Daily Mail. The event would reportedly resemble one in 2007, held on the tenth anniversary of Diana’s death.
At that ceremony, her favorite music was played inside the Guards Chapel at Wellington Barracks, and Harry addressed the assembled crowd. Another ceremony to acknowledge the 30th anniversary of Diana’s death in 1997 could bring down some barriers between the men and force them to work together, building an emotional bridge in the process.
