Hulu’s New 4-Part Real-Life Crime Miniseries Officially Scores Big on Streaming

Truth becomes stranger (and definitely, more disturbing) than fiction on the latest release in the crime genre landscape. The series, which has quickly become one of the biggest titles currently streaming, is a terrifying tale of violence and deceit that slowly peels back the layers of a case that will have even the most avid followers of true crime scratching their heads. This isn’t because they will doubt who actually committed the crime, but because sometimes these real-life cases spark the basic question of how an apparently decent human being is capable of something so despicable.

‘Welcome to the Family: The Murder of Dan Markel’ Hits Big on Hulu and Disney+

The miniseries scoring big on streaming is Welcome to the Family: The Murder of Dan Markel, Hulu‘s latest true crime piece focusing on the murder of a Florida law professor that shook the country in 2014. Consisting of four episodes of pure nightmare fuel, the series takes viewers on a journey through the bizarre case of Markel’s mysterious murder, and the downfall of a family whose members would eventually be found responsible for the conspiracy. Trust us when we say you will not see the twists and turns coming with this one.

Welcome to the Family: The Murder of Dan Markel premiered on Hulu and Disney+ on September 1, 2026, and quickly became one of the most popular shows on both platforms. Days after its debut, it sits at No. 3 on Hulu’s top 10 list of most-watched shows in the United States, ranking below 20/20 and Chad Powers. In the case of Disney+ in the U.S., it’s also in the third spot, while the global charts put it at No. 5, below Furious and The Shards.

The Latest in Hulu’s True-Crime Offering Unveils a Truly Mind-Blowing Case

Recent true crime titles such as The Crash and Maternal Instinct – both on Netflix and both impressive – have offered viewers a glimpse into horrific real cases exposing the darkest side of human nature. Welcome to the Family: The Murder of Dan Markel plays similar notes (and actually shares a narrative style with Netflix’s greatest true-crime documentaries), but it also makes sure to unravel the entire story, including every arc and clearing up any remaining doubts by the end. Though Hulu is not known for delivering great true crime titles, this one might be a game-changer for the streamer.

Those responsible for Dan Markel’s killing were convicted after a legal process that took over 11 years. In a few words, the family of Wendi Adelson, Dan Markel’s ex-wife, put together a murder-for-hire scheme. Investigators discovered that Wendi’s brother and mother, Charlie and Donna, hired Sigfredo Garcia and Luis Rivera to kill Dan, with Katherine Magbanua acting as the intermediary. After a lengthy trial, they were all convicted and are now serving their sentences. However, the question that will still linger is exactly the one that the docuseries cannot answer for obvious reasons: Wendi has not been linked to the case, and though prosecutors believe she was involved, they haven’t found evidence that can prove this.
