Two well-known Leicestershire pubs close down for good

It’s part of a huge shake-up of hundreds of sites across the UK

Two Leicestershire pubs have pulled their final pints and closed their doors for good.

The closures are part of a huge shake-up of hundreds of sites across the UK, with thousands of jobs affected.

Marina Brewers Fayre, in Wharf Farm, Hinckley, and Flagstaff Island Brewers Fayre, in Ashby, closed their doors for the final time on Monday (September 7).

The closures come as part of a wider company restructuring process by Premier Inn’s parent company, Whitbread.

Whitbread has announced that it will close about 200 of its branded restaurant locations in the UK, affecting both its Beefeater and Brewers Fayre sites.

It was in April when Whitbread revealed it was considering extending its growth plan to sell all of its remaining branded restaurants.

The company said it will focus on adding an extension to some of its hotels, creating a restaurant space inside locations where there is “strong demand”.

Whitbread added that it recruits around 15,000 people each year and that it recognises the impact of its plans on colleagues, saying it will endeavour to redeploy “as many” impacted workers as possible.

A spokesperson for the company previously said: “We first announced our Accelerating Growth Plan to sell a number of our Branded Restaurants in April 2024.

“In April 2026, we announced that, subject to consultation, we were extending the programme to include all remaining Branded Restaurants that will see us add a total of 3,600 new hotel extension rooms in locations where we know we have strong demand. Following consultation, we have now taken the decision to proceed with this proposal.”

The spokesperson added: “We recognise the impact of this proposal on colleagues and a business that recruits around 15,000 people every year, we are aiming to redeploy as many of those impacted colleagues as possible.

“We will continue to offer a great breakfast and dinner at all hotels, replacing Branded Restaurants with a restaurant inside the hotel. This mirrors the format which is already in operation in over half of Premier Inn hotels and is highly popular with hotel guests.”
